Let's Make Ornaments!
I love to make things at Christmas time. Actually, anytime, but especially at Christmas. We make popcorn garland, paper chain garland and ornaments for the tree every year.
Here is our recipe for ornaments.
Salt Dough
• 4 Cups flour
• 1 Cup salt
• 1 ½ Cups hot water
• 1 tsp vegetable oil
Preparation:
Combine the salt and flour, then add the water until the dough becomes elastic. Add the oil at this time and knead the dough (if it's too sticky, add more flour). Once it's a good consistency, roll out and cut with a cookie cutter. Bake ornaments at 200* until hard (about 20 - 30 minutes). Once they've cooled, paint them with designs and symbols, add glitter, beads etc and seal with clear varnish or glue. You can either spray a varnish on them or brush on Mod Podge or slightly watered down glue to help preserve them. We use elmers white school glue.
If you're planning to hang them, poke a hole through the ornament BEFORE baking them. Then after you've varnished/sealed them, run a ribbon or thread through the hole.

The Iris
